Years ago, this large tree fell to the ground, its complex root system exposed to sun, rain, and wind. Now scrubbed clean by the elements, these roots form some unusual crosses.

The top of the old Fall River Road emerges above the tree line. This photo was taken during the last week of September. A few days before, the road was closed because of an early snow.
This is the last of "wood grains"--for a while. On this one, I like how the light level increases as you get closer to the center of the cross. Makes sense.
