These upturned roots are so clean and worn so smooth that must have been exposed to the wind and rain and sun for a long time.

Uprooted Roots

Years ago, this large tree fell to the ground, its complex root system exposed to sun, rain, and wind. Now scrubbed clean by the elements, these roots form some unusual crosses.

This is the last of "wood grains"--for a while. On this one, I like how the light level increases as you get closer to the center of the cross. Makes sense.
