Bare branches 2
I call this "bare branches" because I don't know this shrub's name. The Native Americans who originally populated this land probably did have a name for it, and probably knew what value it had for themselves or for wild animals.
The folks at Homestead National Monument of America, where these "bare branches" live, work at being sensitive to the fact that white Europeans did not "discover" the Great Plains, and that the "free land" we homesteaded and "developed" was originally a home for others who were forced to move when we showed up. So it's appropriate to include a "Yes, but . . ." in our Homestead celebrations.
